Nevada is an adventure-seekers dream destination, offering a wide variety of pursuits for the outdoor enthusiast and some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet.
STAGE 1 - Bike Speed Challenge - Battle Mountain
On the same highway outside Battle Mountain that holds the Human Powered Speed Challenge our teams will ride EasyRacer recumbent bikes complete with wind cheating farings. Each competitor will make two runs over a 200m course and then turn around and do it again within 10 minutes. Will the wind help? Will it hurt? The distant mountains will be heavy with snow, but the weather on the plains could be hot.
PhotosSTAGE 2 - Ranch Hand Rodeo - Winnemucca
In the ring at Winnemucca, every member will have a chance to prove themselves in one of the toughest competitions ever. Yearling range cows will provide all the muscle and kick that an inexperienced rider can handle. Helmets, face masks, flack jackets, gloves, clowns are all provided... but when you get in that gate, it's you and 900 pounds of bovine.
STAGE 3 - Handcar Race - Virginia City
Virginia City - the richest town in the USA. How did they get that silver and gold out? By railroad and the V&T lines. Today teamwork will be paramount as teams face-off in this fantastically preserved town against each other in a down and back drag race using railroad hand cars. The same kind workers used in the late 1800's. Hard to make go and harder to stop an experience you can do at the Carson City Railway Museum.
STAGE 4 - Mountain Bike + Scramble - Austin
Route 50 and the lonliest highway has a jewel in the middle of the State called Austin. An old mine town in the middle of some beautiful foothills. Teams will ride mountain bikes on a steep loop around the village burning their legs going up and challenging their skills coming down. The sage and juniper in the hills, the cold, clear brooks and the view from Austin Summit will make it worthwhile. Back to town for a 5K run back into the hills and past a 100+ year old Stokes Castle.
STAGE 5 - Team Auto Cross - Parumph
Speed Thrills as our teams will drive a tight, twisty autocross course at the fantastic Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch and Raceway in Pahrump. Using the latest C6 Corvettes, each member will make one lap of the course, with a driver change pit stop in the middle.
STAGE 6 - Jet Ski Trials - Laughlin
On the Colorado River below Lake Mead is the desert blossom of a city called Laughlin. At the Big Bend in the river is Laughlin Marina, a sparkling new marina that serves the lower Colorado. The last test will be a jet ski time trial inside the marina lagoon with both members driving and a special "test" that has to be carried out where both people will have to get it right.
