Team Lime Green
Phillip Glenn, 32, Reno, Nev.
Nevada native and Emergency Medical Technician, Phillip Glenn just wants to live his life to the fullest. When asked why he wants to compete in the Land Rover G4 Nevada Passage, Glenn answers succinctly, “to live.” He describes himself as goofy yet focused, which explains why he didn’t back down from the opportunity to embark on a two week backpacking trek from Yosemite Valley to Lake Tahoe with almost no backpacking experience. He finished the trip with plenty of backcountry experience and the desire for more. A veteran XTERRA athlete Glenn finished second in last year’s Nevada Passage. Glenn is constantly outdoors and prepares for his adventure races by swimming, running and biking on a weekly basis. He also enjoys venturing off of the beaten path on his mountain bike and snowboarding on the sunny slopes at Lake Tahoe. Glenn is eager to return to the backcountry of Nevada and test his talents against some of the top adventure athletes from around the country.
Laura Home, 35, Santa Cruz, Calif.
Many adventure competition athletes seek ambitious challenge in the outdoor sports they pursue; Laura Home participates in outdoor sports as a relief from the adventure of her day-to-day job. Home works at an alternative middle school in Santa Cruz, Calif. that offers a non-traditional school setting. She says that working at the school is the most unpredictable and adventurous thing she has ever done, and that the XTERRA World Championship, among her myriad adventure competition experiences, is a walk in the park in comparison. Home is in perpetual training mode as she competes in monthly triathlons. She trail runs, mountain and road bikes and weight trains to stay prepared. She also enjoys tennis and beach volleyball. This is Home’s second Nevada Passage competition. She takes great pride in having won the Corvette Driving stage in the 2006 Nevada Passage, “We killed it, we even beat the sheriffs,” she says. She describes adventure as “getting out there, leaving the comfort zone and having no fear.” Home may regret that description when she is in the midst of the Land Rover G4 Challenge Nevada Passage, which may prove to be the most difficult and “out there” Nevada Passage, yet. Then again, it may be perfect for Home who readily admits she loves this kind of stuff; it makes her feel alive when she is surprised.
